Movement: Detroit 2009

The first Detroit Electronic Music Festival was held in 2000, established by Carol Marvin and her company, Pop Culture Media. Marvin had previously been a sponsorship organizer for the Ford Detroit International Jazz Festival and Detroit-Montreux Jazz Festival, and was a producer of the 1993 Michigan State Fair.
The DEMF was intended to give Detroit and its overlooked history of electronic music major exposure both locally and nationally.
Carl Craig, hired by Carol Marvin to act as "Artistic Director", booked a diverse range of the talent, from big internationally recognized names to lesser-known local talent. Patterned on high-profile dance music festivals in Europe, the DEMF had free admission and attracted many international attendees.
Each festival has been held at
Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit, and has been sanctioned and financially supported by the City of Detroit. The city's support for the festival has been seen by many as the first high-profile acknowledgment and celebration of the city as the birthplace of techno music.

The Festival continued through 2006, 2007, and 2008 and has become successful enough that it is again confirmed for 2009.

P.S.1 Warm UP Music Series

Warm Up is P.S.1’s critically acclaimed music series and has become one of the most anticipated summer events. The series is housed within the architectural installation created by the winner of the annual P.S.1 and MoMA organized Young Architects Program .

This is one of the best Summer beach parties (though no where near the beach) in the world! Why is it a beach party? During the earlier years of the party , they used to haul in beach sand and small water pools. They’ve out grown that now and the party is packed from wall to wall.Hear the best djs from around the world and dance to your hearts content outside under the suns rays.

P.S. 1, located in Long Island City is part of MoMA. It houses contemporary pieces of art and is open for all to see during the outside celebrations.
